Build Green With Us!
Green or sustainable building is the practice of creating healthier and more resource-efficient models of home construction, operation, and maintenance.
At Visionary Homes, we can help you incorporate
green aspects into your home throughout the building process,
from helping you choose an environmentally friendly site for your home,
to using energy efficient designs and materials during the construction of your home.
At Visionary Homes, we believe when buildings are designed and operated with their lifecycle
impacts in mind, they can provide great environmental, economic, and social benefits.
Some components of Green Building include the use of:
- Products Made with Salvaged, Recycled, or Agricultural Waste Content
- The materials used to produce a building product—and where those materials came from—is a key determinant of green.
- Products with post-consumer recycled content
- Products That Conserve Natural Resources
- Products that reduce material use
- Rapidly renewable products, like bamboo, straw and others that typically take 10 years or less to regenerate
- Recycled products like recycled stone, recycled metal, and other products that are non-toxic, reusable, renewable, and/or recyclable.
- These products should be found locally to minimize environmental impacts during transportation
- Products That Avoid Toxic or Other Emissions
- Natural or minimally processed products
- Products that reduce impacts from construction or demolition activities
- Products that reduce pollution or waste from operations
- Products That Save Energy or Water
- Building components that reduce heating and cooling loads, like efficient windows and sealed duct work
- Renewable energy and fuel cell equipment
- Fixtures and equipment that conserve water like smaller tank toilets and low flow showerheads
Along with renewable materials, low-impact building materials are available whenever feasible. Insulation made from low VOC (volatile organic compound)-emitting materials such as cellulose (shredded paper) insulation is one example that is commonly used in Visionary homes. Another example is organic or milk-based paints that are low impact during manufacturing and are healthier for the home.
